Helicopters

Look up on any windy autumn day, and you are likely to spot things spinning and turning and twirling their way downwards from the sycamore trees above.

Catch one of those swirly whirly things in order to take a closer look.  See the round, hard, heavier, dark part?  The seed.  See the paler, lighter, translucent ‘winged’ part?  Hold it high…..

and let go.  Watch (carefully) as it spirals the seed on its way to the floor.  And wonder what it is that makes it spin so.

For you have a challenge.  A paperclip for a seed needs helicopter wings of paper to help it spiral its was to the ground.  Clip the ‘seed’ to your design of wings.  How can you make it travel in a spiralling pathway?
